Beginner's Introductory Courses

Each course consists of 6 weekly 1 hour lessons run by a qualified and fully insured British Kendo Association coach. The course is designed to cover all the basic fundamentals of kendo and to give the student the opportunity to realise what this great sport has to offer.

The course includes temporary membership of the British Kendo Association, which also gives full personal insurance cover. Students must be a minimum of 14 years of age. There is no upper age limit.

Equipment
The student will also be supplied with a personal Shinai (bamboo training sword), which is theirs to keep. The club will provide any other equipmentthe student may require during this course.
Attire
Kendo Armour

The club has various sets of armour called bogu, they are available to club members for a certain period to allow them time to afford to buy their own. Bogu from various suppliers costs from approx £280 upwards. We wold normally expect students to be ready to wear amour after 3-6 months practice.

For a student to be able to use bogu they must wear the correct attire, which is, hakama (pleated trousers), keiko-gi (practice jacket) and te-nugui (head towel). Hakama and keiko-gi are available from various suppliers from approx £30 upwards whilst tenugui can be bought from the club. As a full member these items will be essential.

Course Fees
The course fee is a single, non-refundable payment of £60 per student. When a student completes their course and wishes to continue training as a full club member, the fees are £20 per month for adults, and £10 per month for juniors payable by standing order. After four months from starting their course adults must upgrade to permanent membership of the British Kendo Association.
