Kendo in Action

You must remember this is a contact sport. It is never safe to learn (or attempt to copy movements) solely from books or videos. Books should only be used as reminders - they can never replace a good teacher.

It helps to have a reasonable level of fitness. However there are all body types involved in this sport, the sport is adaptable to you. As we say in Kendo, there is Fit, and there is Kendo Fit - come along and see !

Kendo is about uniting mind, spirit and body. Add a good teacher plus a great company of fellow kendoka. See where your potential leads you.

So come and see the action for real, in person !!

As well as fencing in armour, kendo also involves 10 forms of Kata. Kata is carried out with a wooden sword called a bokuto. The pictures on the left show three starting positions for some of the kata forms.

The action shown in the animation on the left, shows the most important cut in Kendo - a straight strike to the head.
